STUDIO EXPECTATIONS
CARE:
In studio 322 we have different expectations for the room's use and structure than in other classrooms. Our art studio belongs to the artists who work in it. We stress this ownership to the student artists to encourage them to think of it as their own. Each artist in Studio 322 is responsible for it's care and appropriate use. Each of the artists will have rotating jobs in this class to make sure that the tools and spaces are clean, stored and ready for the next artists to come in and work, and that all of the art work is treated with care and consideration.
SAFETY:
Art studios are unique spaces for artists to envision and create, to try new things and to take creative and personal risks in their work. Because art is so personal and emotional, it is extremely important that student artists feel safe to make their art. This safety is only possible in an art studio that is supportive and nonjudgmental. The art studio must be free of negative language or gestures so that all artists feel free to create and take risks with no concern about the judgement of their peers . We cannot stress enough the importance of the encouragement and support of every artist in this studio.
Additionally the safe use of the room and the tools in it is expected in order to keep artists and their studio mates physically safe.
RESPECT:
Respect is the golden rule in the art studio too. We need to treat all people, tools, classroom areas and art work with respect.
Students must use tools in the manner in which they are taught - keeping the safety and respect of others and themselves in mind.
Students must use respectful language AT ALL TIMES.
Students must be respectful of the personal space of other artists and artwork.
Students must show respect for Art work - moving it with care and consideration.
FLEXIBILITY:
Students must be flexible in the studio! Ready to make changes and to allow their vision to evolve in making their work.
